VIDEO TREATMENT

SCROLL DOWN

// Turn Out The Light

VIDEO TREATMENT

Having been fortunate enough to have seen Cris musical career up close, we see an amazing opportunity to create a video that is unique and allows Cris to pay homage to many of the musical influences that are currently shaping his style of music and voice. The various influences from the late 80s and early 90s such as The Police & Talking Heads are just a few examples of the new style of Cris music. Many of those bands had incredible videos that were simple in nature, abstract, and iconic for that generation. We look to create something of a similar fashion for Cris. In a world where videos are becoming so typical in nature, we see this as a real opportunity to stand out. Furthermore, we couldnt think of a better song on Cris new album to create this feel because of its abstract and unique sound.

For this video, we have decided that we are going to avoid the concept of having a strong story. Instead, we look to use modern cinematography, design, and performances to create a visually engaging video. Our video will take place in 3 separate scenes with very different visual identities. We feel this is the best approach to create a video that is abstract and interesting in order to follow the aesthetic of the song.

We look to have a combination of dramatic lights that are turning on an off to go from a lit scene to completely dark. When the light comes back on were in different parts of our locations. This will allow us to suspend time and create a very unique visual style to the piece that feels as if its beginning to transcend reality. We will also make most of these lighting transitions to the beat of the song. In these scenes we will integrate girls, a band playing, & Cris performing. But as you will see below, they are not going to be integrated in the traditional music video style. These are elements very reminiscent of old music videos of the late 80s and early 90s from bands such as Genesis and Talking Heads.

We feel confident in this style because of the simple fact that this era and style has been such an influence in Cris music as of recent. We look to pay homage to these style videos while at the same time, bring it up to date with a modern aesthetic.

// Locations

// Locations

The 3 locations for this video are going to play a critical role in the look and style of the video. Throughout these scenes, we look to have abstract performances with Cris where he is either performing directly into camera or walking as he sings. We will never shoot these in a traditional fashion as the goal is to keep everything feeling somewhat surreal. Even when we integrate female characters, Cris will simply walk past them in the room as they are laying on an extremely modern couch or leaning up against the wall moving to the music in an almost abstract nature. The video will reinforce the idea that everything feels a little different. We will edit the video between all these locations to create a visual identity that stands out and feels surreal.

LOCATION 1

The 1st location is a post-modern architecture style home. This will allow for clean moves and aesthetic to the music video. Here we look to integrate shots of Cris walking through the space as we reveal elements taking place in the background. Cris will pass a casual 3 piece band as they are performing the song. We will also integrate attractive female talents into these scenes. We may have a shot of Cris performing into camera with extremely modern art work or photography in the background.

LOCATION 2

The 2nd location is a modern style art gallery with clean lines, florescent lighting, and concert floors. The goal here is to integrate some of our performance shots in a unique and abstract space. We look to integrate the clean lines and architecture to use as another interesting dynamic in the film.

LOCATION 3

The 3rd and final location will be an extremely large and dark room which we can completely control in order to create dynamic lighting effects. This space will allow so to focus on just shots of Cris both wide and tight and create dramatic lighting effects. When we turn the lights on and off in this environment. We can create extremely interesting visual effects from one scene to the next. In this scene we also look to integrate nude female talent but shoot them in a way where we don't reveal anything. We believe this is a creative and incredible way to integrate sexuality into the video in a unique and tasteful manner. There are examples of it below.

Cinematography & EDITING

Other then the performance, cinematography and editing will be the 2 most important aspects of creating a dynamic and interesting video. It is quite frankly the most important part of this filmThe cinematography & editing of this project will rely heavily on the structure and pace of the song. Although the cinematography will be simple in nature, the lighting style and effect will make it engaging in complex as we move from one location to the next in the film. Following the look and feel of those classic music videos, we will play with dramatic lighting to help sell the effect of going from a lit room to dark and back into another room.

ART DIRECTION

Our art direction will be driven heavily by the sets and lighting we chose to execute this effect. The main art direction for all these sets will be driven by post-modern architecture and art. The furniture selection and images for the art and photography will play a big role in the feel and look of our sets and video background.
